The I/O communication for Flexible Automation of Extrusion is based on a remote I/O bus.  We have strategically placed the remote I/O at key places in the process such as a remote I/O enclosure at the MCC (Motor Control Center), the extruder area, feeder interface and packaging. With the remote I/O enclosure we have shorter runs of conduit and I/O wiring, thereby significantly reducing our cost for new installations.  In the case of retrofits, the local I/O would be updated to support the latest PLC model for the chosen platform.  The remote I/O bus allows us to also place other smart devices on the bus.  We have integrated the main extruder drive, pelletizer drive and side feeder drive on the same remote network.  This concept provides a fast and simple interface for all equipment back to a centralized PLC.
